Family charity volunteer call

Home-Start, the leading family support charity, has made an urgent appeal for volunteers in the Causeway area.
A LEADING family support charity has made an urgent appeal for volunteers in the Causeway area. Home-Start is looking for people with parenting experience to work with the charity after an increase in the number of families with young children asking for help.
Home-Start volunteers help families with young children that, for a variety of reasons, find it difficult to cope with the stresses and strains of everyday life.
Last year volunteers from Home-Start Causeway helped more than 50 families and 140 children in the Causeway area. However, more volunteers are required to meet current demands.
The appeal is being supported by White's, makers of Only Oats and Speedicook, which announced a three year partnership with Home-Start in May, to raise funds to drive its volunteer recruitment programme.
Karen Millar, Scheme Organiser for Home-Start Causeway, said volunteers only needed to give a few hours of their time a week.
“Our volunteers are the life-blood of Home-Start and a lifeline to the families we support," she said. "Families referred to us often need help for lots of different reasons including post-natal depression or disability, after multiple births, or sometimes just because they are young and inexperienced.
“By dedicating just a few hours a week, our volunteers can help these parents gain confidence to manage their particular situation on their own and give their children the best possible start in life."
One Home-Start Causeway volunteer said volunteering was a rewarding experience.
“After bringing up my own children I wanted to use my skills to help other families in my own community," she said.
“I enjoy being a Home Start Volunteer as I feel that I am making a difference in peoples' lives."
